Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8 Inch 16 GB Wifi Tablet Black Friday 2020
Welcome to my review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab a the 8 inch model I feel it’s a pretty decent buy considering it I really have high hopes on it which is why I ordered it so let’s see whether it lives up to my expectation first let’s just go ahead and unbox this inside the box first
we have the tablet itself that comes nicely wrapped in some soft material we then have the charging cable we have the charging brick as you can see here and finally we have the Quick Start Guide and the warranty card quickly giving you a physical overview of the tablet up front we have the front facing camera and the earpiece down below we get the 3.5 mm jack the single speaker and the microUSB charging port on the left side of the device we get the SIM card slot the micro SD card slot the sleep and wake power button and the volume rockers at the back we get the primary five megapixel camera and I like the way the back panel is finished it doesn’t feel slippery and offers a good feel when held in the hand I also like the chrome lining on the edges that does add in the premium feel the micro SD card slot supports cards up to 128 GB which is superb we get a micro sim slot here so that is something you need to note the screen size is 8 inches and we get an ex-dea LCD screen and the screen resolution is 1024 by 768 with a pixel density of 160 PPI powering on the tablet the startup animation looks decent enough I’m done with the initial setup now and this is how the home screen looks long pressing on the screen takes us to the wallpapers and the widgets section we can set separate wallpapers for the home screen and the lock screen or the same wallpaper for both we also get various widgets to choose from that you can drag and place on the home screen we can also tap the home icon on each page to make it the home screen as per your preference we can add or remove pages as per our personal preferences – pulling down the drop down menu we get the shortcut settings that can be further edited by hitting the edit button and dragging and dropping your preferred setting you can choose which setting you would like to show up in the quick settings toggle menu we can manually adjust the brightness as you can see here and thankfully we also do get automatic brightness getting into the settings section we have something called a smart manager which shows us the remaining battery percentage the storage left the RAM being used and the device security as you can see here we have nearly 8 GB free out of the 16 gigs of internal memory that is available on board and around 1 GB free out of the 2 GB RAM that this device comes equipped with the device now comes with android 6.0.1 marshmallow right out of the box which is great powering the device is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 gigahertz also onboard this device we get a 4200 milliamp hour battery and the battery optimization seems decent enough but the charging time for the battery with the given charger seems a bit too sluggish now let’s just quickly go ahead and do a camera test here we get a 5 megapixel primary rare camera with autofocus and the picture clarity is extremely decent for a tablet as you can see here in these sample pics taken looking at the camera options we can choose to shoot with 5 megapixel with forest to 3 aspect ratio or 3.8 megapixel with 16 is to 9 aspect ratio as far as video is concerned we can shoot only 720p videos with the rear camera which is slightly disappointing we also get various effects to choose from like grayscale sepia tone and negative looking at the various shooting modes we have auto panorama continuous short beauty face sound and short and sports mode I personally found the beauty mode to provide the most vivid results among the options offered here are some photo samples as well as video samples short indoor as well as outdoor the two megapixel front-facing camera also does a pretty decent job as you can see here next let’s just go ahead with the OTG test here you see me connecting a 16gb OTG pendrive to this tablet and here you can see that the OTG pendrive is detected immediately and the folder opens up automatically displaying all the contents in it so let’s just quickly play a video of mine and also do a sound check simultaneously here we only get a single speaker in this eight-inch tab a as opposed to the nine point seven inch tab a which gets dual speakers but trust me the single speaker does do a decent job itself next let’s just go ahead and check it’s gaming performance I am playing a game called traffic rider here which comes with nice and precise controls as well as impressive graphics so let’s see how the game plays out on this device as you can see the game played pretty well with the controls working fine and the graphics being rendered well next we look at some unique and useful features of this tablet first we have the split screen feature that can be enabled by long pressing the multitasking button as you can see here we can open one app on the left side and another app on the right side you can watch videos or listen to music while browsing the net simultaneously the active window is highlighted in blue as you can see here in this video clip you can minimize it to let it float on the screen and then activate it by simply tapping on it also you can drag and drop images from one window to another as you can see here we then have the ultra power saving mode which allows you to use the remaining battery life optimally in case of emergencies by running only the vital and necessary apps you can also edit and add a few other apps of your choice that you prefer to have in the ultra power saving mode to exit this power saving mode you can simply click on the more button as you can see on the screen here and press the disable ultra power saving mode button the music app also comes well-equipped here we do get the sound alive feature with the bass treble controller we do get adaptive sound technology onboard which is great we also get a 7-band graphic equalizer with various preset modes like pop rock jazz etc we also get further sound enhancing options like 3d bass clarity concert hall etc looking at the browsing experience here you see me opening up my YouTube channel so let’s just quickly play a video here and see how the streaming works honestly the streaming works fine and the audio quality is surprisingly very good but I really wish they had offered a full HD display we then have some smart caster features like swiping across the screen to take a screenshot as you can see here we can also mute the incoming calls and alarms by simply placing a palm on the screen we can minimize any window by simply swiping down from left to right as you can see here we can move around the app and place it wherever we want it we can maximize it or minimize it to become a floating icon on the screen we can open up to five apps at a time and to close them we can simply long press them and drop them in the bin up here or we can close them directly from the pop-up menu like so we also have a dedicated reading mode that optimizes the screen resolution to the ideal setting conducive for reading a papers or ebooks as you can see the readers would absolutely love this feature giving them the actual feel of reading a real book the reading mode can be enjoyed in portrait mode or landscape mode as per your personal preference finally listing out some of its cons I really wish it had a full HD display with a 16 is 210 aspect ratio that would be ideal for watching movies and full HD videos the forest to tree aspect ratio might be good for reading books magazines and for browsing but it really fails badly when it comes to playing full HD videos secondly I wish this tab came with dual speakers like the nine point seven inch model because that would have offered a more engaging experience while playing games or watching videos thirdly the battery charge time feels way too sluggish now I don’t know whether something’s wrong with my particular tablet but the charging time is really disappointing because it’s happening at a snail’s pace overall I feel it is a decent Buy if you prefer reading books frequently and like to browse a lot on the net the split screen feature really does help you multitask effortlessly and with consummate ease if you prefer watching full HD movies for the most part then this tablet.
